How To Embrace the Internet: For A Technology Novice
The absolute worst thing you could do is keep ignoring the internet, like it's some sort of phase or generational icon that will fade with time and be nothing more than food for nostalgia. The internet is not going away, in fact it is growing exponentially and has become one of the best opportunities for any business to increase revenue
For someone not accustomed to the internet, finding a business may involve reading through the newspaper, thumbing through the local Yellow Pages and even asking around. Today, this can be done with 5 seconds devoted to typing in a simple search into a Search Engine like Google.com or Yahoo.com. You can also guarantee yourself that search engines will provide you with the most relevant results for a search instead of the results that have paid the most to be found in the Yellow Pages or in the newspaper.
The internet is everywhere these days - if you do not own a computer/have an internet connection, someone in your family or a close friend will. They'll be able to show you what you need to get up and running, and there are plenty of businesses out there willing to help (albeit for a small price...).
Perhaps the most important thing to know is that using the internet does not require a PhD in computer science. Knowing how a computer works has nothing to do with using the internet - the internet is just a large network that people are using to share information with one another. Ask yourself this - do you need to know how a telephone works to use one? Of course not - the same goes for the internet. So don't be intimidated; embrace the World Wide Web and save yourself the time and headache required years ago for doing menial tasks years ago like finding out what time the doctor's office is open until.
As long as you can wrap your head around the fact that using the internet is as easy as daydreaming, you're well on your way to making your life a whole lot easier.
